Etienne Uzac

Etienne Uzac is an accomplished media entrepreneur with extensive print and digital media expertise. With a global perspective and a passion for business, Etienne’s journey began when he left his birthplace of Santiago, Chile, and ventured to South Africa and France. While in France, he attended Lycée Stanislas Paris for high school before pursuing higher education at The London School of Economics and Political Science. Following his educational pursuits, Etienne relocated to New York, where he became an integral part of the founding team of the International Business Times (IBT). In 2006, IBT was established as a digital media company, providing all-digital business news coverage to diverse countries. As the company flourished, it changed its name to IBT Media and expanded its portfolio by launching additional brands like Medical Daily, Latin Times, and Player. One, and Fashion Times.

After achieving remarkable growth and success with IBT, Etienne played a pivotal role in acquiring Newsweek Magazine by IBT in 2013. Relocating to Newsweek’s offices in Downtown New York, he and the IBT team invested significantly in the development and growth of the publication. Their efforts successfully transformed Newsweek from an e-magazine into a fully-fledged news website, restoring the print edition. This strategic move garnered significant attention for Newsweek’s editorial content and led to profitability by the end of 2014. IBT also experienced substantial growth under Etienne’s leadership, leveraging proprietary technologies to gain a competitive advantage in digital publishing. The company attracted high-caliber journalists and secured numerous accolades, including six SABEWs, one Izzy, and three The Drum Online Media Awards. In 2016, Etienne temporarily resigned from his CEO position at IBT to pursue personal activities. However, his unwavering dedication to the media industry led him back to the company’s helm in 2023, assuming the position of CEO again.
